Best/worst/too-much-effort Practice Sharing (read tips/tricks) for windows and maybe life in general :ashamed:

I want to know how u do it? how u install ur windows or how u manage or music collections or how u manage ur dvd collection, how u make ur e-life productive in general, life hacker maybe.

So I penned down what I do generally, Its maybe excess for few. But I like to use it a lot. I enjoy the fun of excruciating pain of formatting ur drives again and again, reinstalling/reconfiguring/re-architecting stuff in the best possible manner that I cud think off, which can survive and procreate in my mixed os env in my home.
How I install my windows?
[*]Used 2 OS installation on 2 drives (preferably) 1st as main, 2nd as backup os for salvaging data in case of disk dying or in coma
[*]Used a seperate SWAP drive say D:\. I reasoned Fragmented swap on c:\ would be a snail right?
[*]Used NTFS Mounting feature a lot. Like "C:\program files" & "C:\Documents and Settings" as NTFS mount points rather than a folder in c:\
[*]Mount all *other* drives partition [preferably] under one folder Eg D:\mnt\@Music D:\mnt\@Movie D:\mnt\s0p2l0_swap D:\mnt\s0p4l1_xdrive
[*]If you have a network at home with other PCs: Share D:\mnt as mnt$, my D:\ is the swap drive
[*]Also Map z:\ as \\127.0.0.1\mnt$\ on ur local PC and use Z:\ instead of D:\mnt (Z is like root with all ur drives, special folders etc)
[*]For remote boxes map z:\ as \\10.10.1.22\mnt$ (or \\nt2.i.httpd.in\mnt$ if u like dns server in ur home!? ;-)) Reasoned paths for z:\@Music\some\album\song.mp3 is accessible on all boxes
[*]Maybe it overkill for few - Use better names for drives s0p1l0 as Sata0, Primary Partition 1, Logical 0 (Gotta love old Solaris :D :D :D)
[*]Better OS name help very overkill .
[*]nt61anas.domain.local (NT 6.1 2008 server NAS box!? in ur workgroup)
[*]nt61web.v.domain.local (another vmware install nt61 as webserver in ur "v" domain stands for virtualized)
[*]Better software managebility?
[*]Another overkill (maybe someday u have 20+ windoze pc in ur home)
[*]Add z:\bin, z:\bin\common, z:\bin\`hostname`\ (z:\bin\nt61a\) directory to ur PATH$ I mean %PATH% on all boxes
[*]Add shortcuts to ur fav progs, ymsgr for yahoo im, ff for firefox, fbr for foobar, bc for bitchcomet, az azureus, opera for opera etc to ur z:\bin\nt61a\ (coz paths may change on diff boxes)
[*]Add sysinternal progs command line or other progrs like curl, putty etc for win32 to z:\bin\common
[*]So I just Windows + r yim and enter
or I type putty -l root glucon.d.httpd.in
or mstsc -v nt61 -console (oh wait! ;-))
[*]Better OS admin? use sysinternal cmd lines

right, its overkill :)i have one question? whats the easiest/best way (if any) to backup all your settings/customisations so that you can restore them when/if you need to reinstall the OS or some apps etc....?i normally redo my customisations/setup manually as and when i come across the need, after a reinstall...

is there some nice free software that will take and restore ghost images? something that will capture and restore my dual-boot installation of XP and Linux? that would be pretty useful...

Looks interesting... and the backup is in XML format?! :)
