yeah do that. and tell them u dont run sify :P u are just responsible for the last mile connectivity. :Dgive them the mail ids of the sify customer care people. we can do with more mails sent to those addresses. ;)

Interestingly, they told me that they worked with Sify n Sify dint pay them some odd some wich runs around half a crore

Any1 heard of G8.net ?
These guys r after my @$$.....they want to use Sify BBand on their linux server.....n they r literally killin me for Sify BBand not providing a 24X7 connectivity[/b]
--surjeett

Ask them to get cybercafe packs or whatever corporate solutions Sify has to offer and not go cheap (heh) with the residential packs if they need internet 24X7 for commercial purposes. Sify anyway prohibits using Residential packs for commercial use.

I think we get automatically logged off sooner or later on Sify because we are not getting a static external IP. So Sify has to re@$$ign the IP which we are @$$igned, to another user if it suspects we aren't doing any activity on the internet because it must be having a limited pool of dynamically allocatable IPs. It's just like the network heartbeat messages sent by dial-up ISPs because they @$$ign dynamic (changing) IPs to their subscribers too.

Cyber Cafe packs and corporate packs would have a static IP and would be a true broadband connection too. So they could stay online 24X7 and have a meaningful bandwidth for business :)

Why not try the regular client first? As far as I know, an alternative client aint existing yet ;)

coz making software for linux does not mean u have to release the source code. GNU General Public License means that i think[/b]
--Sushubh

Actually GPL (Gnu Public License) says that any software that is GPLed should be always distributed with its source code. It could be sold or distributed free of cost but it should always include its source code and give the freedom for anyone to modify that source code ;) .

Thus the Sify client isn't GPLed but proprietary. That's how they decided to make it even though it's against the philosophy of Linux and software developed for Linux. These guys http://www.indiasec.com/papers/pratap/sify.html
however have reverse-engineered it and it's as good as GPL now because we now know everything about it

@ InetbumTalkin abt NOT givin packs meant for residential purpose for commercial purpose. Accordin to this company, they r only interested in gettin more n more customers, its like beg, borrow,or steal, but get the customer. So they dont take ANY action if some CTO is givin these residential packs to cafe owners etc. Sify guys have just closed their eyes on this particular thing. May be this thing is only applicable in Chennai (where their head office is).Anyway.... wat can i say where they themselve dont follow their rules.I'm sufferin coz i'm begin honest :( (lost two cafe clients who were earnin good n were happily payin for hourly n data transfer packs)

Yeah, why should you suffer losses when other CTOs sell Residential packs to everyone by demand. It's Sify's headache afterall. If Sify is itself condoning it why should you care ;). You can just inform people such as G8.net that they won't be getting 24x7 connectivity with the Residential packs even if they tweak their connections enough like we on this forum do. Let them know that Sify's 24X7 packs cost more $$$ :P
