Well, the main problem is there are few subscribers in my area... just 4 in my colony. So the guy does not put a power backup/ power pack for the switch which is requird for stable operation. Also, he says he is changing me over entirely to fibre optic. In fact, a little more than a month ago, he brought the fibre optic all the way up to my terrace, but until now, the guy from Sify has not come to splice it. So, it is lying useless, and I am stuck on regular Cat5. If he changes it, then all my problems will disappear, and I will probably get better speeds too.

MY CTO also cahnged all wiring to optic fibre except to myarea ......f@#kers....he had planned optic fibre for my area as well....but later changed his plans and went in for a new CAT 5 only....

We have an optic-fiber link to our apartment complex too but it was down some days ago for more than 1.5 days. And the local switch hangs everytime there's a power fluctuation or something or the other keeps on going wrong causing time outs to the gateway hence downtime.These morons have started converting parts of their network to fiber this means, but i don't see any improvement in uptime.

I dont know bout u guys but my LAN is up 99% time.....and it has 100% power back up......doesnt get affected by power failures or fluctuationsI have seen improvement in my LAN since the Sify annouced its forceful antivirus policy......now all computers have atleast a Virus scanner and hencee no collosions....so good pingsSince the time my LAN has improved......sify has gone down..

Switch ofcourse..switch can route the traffic more efficiently and hence u get faster speeds
