Well, I actually emailed the guys over at Sify asking about this. It was part of my usual tri-monthly rant about their horrible service and overpriced plans. :P

Almost all of them (as usual) ignored the mail. Only [email protected] forwarded it to some other guy and requested him "to brief and update Mr. Chakraborty over our Products , Services, Value Added Services and Customer Support with respect to other competition in the market."

Nothing after that...

i think they increase speed of VOLUME BASED PLAN to 2/1mbps like other isp do
Are you guessing ? Volume based plans SUX:evil:!! I am using Unlimited 256 kbps (EY56) and will continue using Unlimited no matter what the speed !

hmmm..... getting sick of this Ad. Actually, come to think of it, its very clever advertising by Sify !! This ad is the only thing holding me back from jumping onto the Airtel bandwagon, which is available in my area.Otherwise, I'm quite pleased with Sify in every other way... just waiting(impatiently) to see what Sify have new to offer.... quite tempted by the 8 MBPS speeds (but not Plans!) of Airtel !

hmmm.... they've stopped that Ad...... now there is a new Ad.... "Congratulations, you now have the power of Sify Anywhere"..... thanx but no thanx, I'm not interested. I sure hope that this wasn't their big surprise:rolleyes:Anyway, I'll see for a month or 2 more and then switch to Airtel if speeds don't improve.

with airtel offering plans upto 8 mbps (though just volume based) & sify still on 256 kbps, i dont know how long will people have to wait for sify to upgrade...its been almost a year since the beginning of 2mbps

I wish I had taken a screen shot of this to prove it.Anyway, Im back on this forum checking the Sify section if anyone faced slow speed in the last couple of days. For the last 4-5 days my net speed has been pretty slow - fluctuating every now & then. The first chuck of bytes seem to download at normal speed, then its starts to get slower & slower like a car running out of petrol.2-3 weeks back when my net was fine, I was downloading stuff (fedora 8, sql server 2008 nov preview etc) via flashget and the normal speed I get is between 25-30 KBps. But all of a sudden the speed went up to 170KBps / 220KBps - not a constant one though. This was at around 12 am. I didnt how this was happening, but I wasnt complaining. :DI decided to try downloading many files at once and I was getting a max of 700 something KBps ! Thats evaluates to approx 5.5Mbps !Either Sify was trying out something or it was some error. Anyway, I dont think it lasted for long, because when I got up it was back to 29KBps.MS SQL Server 2008 (1G) got downloaded though, but FC8 (3.19GB) didnt finish.
