Recently, I migrated to using my own ONU+Router setup from the company provided ONT. Given the segmentation, I anticipated higher power consumption by my setup. However, the reality turned out to be opposite.
AOT-4221SR (Firmware v4) alone used to consume anywhere between 12-15 watts with 1 LAN and 5-10 wireless devices.
My setup: TP-Link XZ000 G7 + Archer A6 (V3) now consumes less than 9 watts under same load.
Sercomm ONT had multiple issues like DNS reset, substantial lag under load and hidden SSID broadcasting. Wireless range was good though.
What could be the reason behind higher power consumption inspite of being a single unit? Hidden SSID is one thought but difference of 3-6 watts is hard to settle.
