Linus and his team explain how important it is for a WiFi access point to be able to change channels and what issues occur when WiFi channels are overlapping each other, specially on the 2.4Ghz band.

Airtel for some reason thought they are smart by locking out the users from changing the WiFi channels, which IMO is so stupid. Airtel must know better.

Locking out the channel settings has caused tonnes of headaches for me personally and I frankly feel really bad for the uneducated field technicians because they have no clue as to what I talk about. Even calling the CC is hopeless.

The "Airtel field engineers" who came over to replace our old gateway was also attending Jio Fibre's field calls the same time they were working with an Airtel customer.

Airtel needs proper hiring and training on the lower levels.

It’s cost cutting, these big players hire some external company to take care of last mile as that is the only way they can price competitively and cheaply.

Since they have already stoop this low, there is no way that they are going to change this model. Even if the price increases by 10x.

Good video about the channel interference. I am still wondering why ISP blocks changing the channel.
The same exact scenario happened in my home. 2.4GHz is completely down due to interference. Raised multiple complaints with Airtel. Finally I got fed up with them and bought my own router. Disabled the ONT radios . Now I have a control on the channel selection.

I am only looking some suggestion that how do we select the right channel which has less interference?

@sgajjala you can download wifi analyser app like wifiman and see the most congested channel. Note that is feature only works on android phone, iPhones seem to have some kind of API restriction.

You can auto switch Wifi channels from the Airtel App. Some ISPs don't even give that.
