same here never used to wrk me im connected using switche's :( , its helpfull as transmissions r protected frm other users, but i dont want that way :P

So the way to make a LAN secure is to install a switch instead of a hub :) .Which apparently not everyone wants  :P

My CTO uses hub, instead of switch.. I asked to use the switch..and the so called Tech specialist wont listen to me.. ( he says, that he has networked 30000 machines - don't teach me)How would my neighbor's react if I told them what they do the internet :D

well just tell the the damn techie he wired them all wrng adn sue him for 30000 stupidified connections :P tell that sicko to get a life adn move on , we dont wanna hang on to baba addam techonology. gift him some books on netwrkin , give him tanenbaum (if he can read english that is) that will atleast tell him the basics :P

Guess there are not too many (smart) Mac users.I actually do not face any problem with the dialer on my power book.Have you checked your network settings in System Preferences. It might be setted for a different set-up. Switch it back to Ethernet or Airport (whatever you are using) and try to ping again. For sure the dialer will only pop up if you can ping.
