well the good thing with gmail is that you do not really have to worry about confirming your email id by unsubscribing. mark any junk mail as spam (a couple of times might be needed)... and you no longer have to worry about it. though it does clutter up your spam folder so it becomes kind of tough to filter out any genuine mail.
