hi! cn anyone please help. I am using bitcomet 1.06 but my downlod speed just does not cross 20kb/s. all of the buttons are green even bitcomet states that my listening port is ok. My ISP is bsnl, i checkd my download speed on various speed testing website and it has come to 64kb/s. but i am not getting that speed. Cn anyone help me out. i am using siemens c2110 modem.

There could be a hundred different issues and you must provide some information if you want help.

[*] Which Dataone plan are you using?

[*] What speeds do you get in dataone.in speedtest.

[*] How have you configured the torrent program? Generally it is a good idea to keep maximum global connection value to 90 and maximum peer per torrent to 16. Experiment. Do not set high values thinking this will give higher speeds. It doesn't work that way.

[*] Portforwarding is working fine? You have tested, right?

[*] Switch over to latest version of utorrent.

[*] There are no speed gurantees with torrents. Speed depends a lot on peers/seeders and so on. You must allow upload if you want download.

1. I am currently into home plan 750(unlimited)2. Download speed as per dataone.in is 75.19 kb/s(bandwith 601.50kbps)3. I did port forwarding test on a port forwarding website and it states that port 22876( which is used by bitcomet) is open on ip 117.194.96.1454. I am using Bitcomet 1.06, the latest version5. As far as cofiguration is concerned i did it but of no help6. Even in highly seeded torrent e.g Seed/peers - 25/50 i get speed of only 20 kb/s Do i need to configure something in modem like going into 192.168.1.1 and checking or changing something. I connect through dial up connection set up by the bsnl people on my machine at the time of setup by them.

This is strange since in Home UL750 you should only get maximum of 32 KiloBytes/seconds aka 256 kilobits/seconds. Why are you getting higher figures in speedtest?

Anyway, 20 kiloBytes/second is still on the lower side for your plan.

So do this:

[*] Go to ADSL configuration (192.168.x.x) and check your firewall settings. Have you turned on the DOS or DDOS protection? Turn it off since a flood of p2p packets can confuse the firewall into thinking you are having a DOS attack. Save and Reboot. Test.

[*] Disable any software firewalls and reboot. Test to see if speed improved.

[*] You seem to be using Bridge mode (dialer) to connect to Dataone. Try and switch to PPPoE mode connection (search this forum on how) and then see if it makes any difference to speed.

[*] How many torrents are you downloading simultaneously? Try to get one or two world famous torrents from TPB with 5 or more seeders at 100%. See if that improves the speed. pause all other torrents when conducting this test, and also see that upload rate is reasonable.

What kind of speed do you get from link-removed, megadownload, depositfile? What kind of speed do you get when you download patches from Microsoft website? Are only torrents slow or other downloads also slow?

how do i open DNS Server if you could please help

DNS wont affect download speed from torrents or throughput, but it is a good idea to use openDNS since BSNL sucks.

[*]Go to 192.168.1.1 or wherever your ADSL modem is located.

[*]Locate the DNS tab.

[*]Type in the addresses mentioned above.

[*]Save and Reboot the ADSL modem.

In my modem, it is configured like this.

User sunnywadherPer your PM you are now getting 30 KiloBytes/second. This is very close to theoritical maximum of your connection: 32 KB/seconds. Not much can be done to get those extra two kilobytes.Which setting change resulted in speed improvement? It would help other people in future should you share. And the reason why the webpages load slowly when the torrents are at 30 KB/seconds is because the connection is saturated and thus HTTP requests to and from webserver take time. You can try to reduce the utorrent rate a bit to see if this improves website performance, although with maximum of 32 KB/s there is not much room to play with. Learn to live with it, I suppose. If not satisfied with these speeds, the only alternative is to migrate to faster UL plan, or Home 500 type plan and max out on free night time usage.

thnax a lot did the settings. Speed increased to 30kb/s. Can it b increased beyond 30 kb/s.Moreover if i put a torrent on download i am not able to surf the net the pages sometimes donot open showing me error as to no connection found and sometimes they are too slow to open. could it be because of the torrent. I stopped the downloading and tried to open pages it opened quicklyWell! thanx again. 30 kb/s is ok with me but i would like to share an interesting thing that i noticed, for around 10-15 mins my speed was between 35-39 kb/s i dont know how the hell it happnd.well i changed my DNS to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 and one more thing i read on bitcomet blog to download emule plugins i did that and activated the plugins and added emule port on port forwarding page.
