The show doesn't resemble star trek, just some random names thrown in. They could have just called it 'Expanse Prodigy" and would have made no difference.

First episode was based in some far away location where kids hadn't even heard about Federation. So it makes sense that it didn't feel like Trek. Lots of previous unseen species.
