So, this is one thing I did not think about while everyone is spewing turd on the BJP government.
The US is India's No. 1 trade partner, i.e., $88B worth of goods were exported and $43B worth of imports. A surplus for India.
While many say Iran used to give good discount rates to India and was happy to sell oil in INR. If you think of the long term, is that really the direction people want to head towards? This is something I have high respect for in China: their evolution in building towards non-oil-reliant infrastructure.
In comparison, we have the following with Iran: $1.25B in exports and $1.06B in imports.
People talk about the same thing about Russia, but even with it, we have only $4B worth of exports and a whopping $61B worth of imports (majority in oil and gas). Hell, we have higher trade with Israel than with Iran.
No wonder when DJT imposed tariffs, Modi had to run to the US and leave Russia.
Does this mean we should be dishonorable as a human being towards this global conflict, just for our gain? No, but everyone has mouths to feed (some more than others), unless one is completely self-reliant (looking at you, Switzerland). We'll probably end up bending first.
This is probably the reason most EU countries have not said much against the US's actions. Not everyone is Stalin, or Hitler, or Lee Kuan Yew. Unlike older times, just having an industrial boom is not enough anymore; you need to be unique, and you need to be in demand.
