Status LED stops blinking and Router page isn't opening!!

Ok guys I got this really annoying problem and this is killing me.I'll try to be precise.

Well, I got NU plan starting this January,I had a combo limited plan earlier.Earlier my connetion was very stable,connected 24x7 without any problems,snr ratio was around 40.I can't get 2mbps speeds cos the exchange is more than 5km away from my house:((I knew this beforehand).The connection worked flawlessly but after 3-4 days:

1.the status light(LED) stops blinking abruptly every 4-5 minutes,it either stops glowing or remains ever glowing.I have to off\on to get it again.The net stops working after it stops blinking but works flawlessly after I off\on for another 4-5 minutes before the status fuggs up again.

2.This is very random sh!t.Well I cudn't open the router setting page on 6th januray(the day problem started).It started opening again the day after,again stopped opening,and hasn't opened after that till now.I don't know whats happening.

Here's is what I have tried:
1.tried it on ubuntu livecd,same problem persists so it isn't fault of my OS.

2.Tried getting my router changed but they don't have any in stock:(,they told me to keep checking and wait till new stock arrives.(I hope you knows know this can take several eternities)

3.Got my line checked by lineman(he's a nice man but lacks any knowledge about broadband\computers).He told me that my current instrument was generating "25% earth",he recommending changing the instrument,which I have already done,and dissconnecting phone while I use B.band which I have tried.I put my incoming line directly into router,i.e. splitter not used,but still the problem persists.

4.have been calling 1504 repeatedly but none of the neanderthal has enough brains to even comprehend what I am telling them in layman's terms.All they say is"pull out all the wires,restart your pc,plug in all the wires again...........and the sh!t continues".They hung up after saying"your line's got problems,we have booked a complaint."


I guess this pretty much sums up my condition.

And yea I have:
1.Vista ultimate
2.UT-304R2 router
3.all the other normal stuff.



Hoping for some quick and helpful replies.I swear to god I am moving to norway\sweden as soon as I get my degree.

Check whether bitswap has been selected.
Are you able to surf now ? By connection the modem directly to the Phone line , the modem could have been damaged.(telephone line voltage around 40 to 60V DC)
 
bitswap what?.A noob here.I did try that And the same problem persisted,status LED goes bad after 4-5 minutes and yea Modem isn't damaged I guess.Actually MTNL guy told me to try that.Din't know it can damage modem,i'll be careful from now on.
 
I dont think there's any such option like bitswap in ut 304r2and btw whats its supposed to do?
 
^^resetted once but it was a pain to enter the no. and password cos the setting page wasn't opening,tried for 6 hours or so before it opened and it hasn't opened since then.And I am not gonna try resetting it once again.There is no setting "bitswap" in my router.anyways guys what do you think is the culprit?is it the line,router,wires,splitter,or My pc?
 
Have u tried different browsers while accessing 192.168.1.1 ? I still face problems accessing my modem interface through IE, hence use Firefox. Experiment with different browsers. :)
