Strange problem guys.....

wen im on ppoe mode im able to open router page 192.168.1.1
Bt problem is ---my downloads dont get da upto2mbps speed
So i changed it to Bridged mode
(Obtain ip automatically enabled)
it gives me these settingsEthernet adapter Local Area Connection 13:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.9.22
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

PPP adapter bsnl:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 117.198.132.143
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 117.198.132.143
In these particular setting ie,automatic ip im nt able to connect to 192.168.1.1

wen i change to specified ip and gateway
ie ip-192.168.1.5
Gateway-192.168.1.1
I can open da router page

Question is why do i get
169.254.9.22 ip add in automatic ip
wen i did a ip2location search it said "not available"

yeah...u'l have the IP 169.254.xx..and it'l show up as limited or no connectivity..but the actual ip address will be of 117.xx..xx. range..dont worry its not a problem....

You can manually put 192.168.1.x and 255.255.255.0 with gateway of 192.168.1.1Sometimes, you wont get IP from your modem/router (DHCP maynot be working), so to communicate, windows gives ip's in the range of 169.254.x.x with subnet mask 255.255.0.0. It happens from the pc itself. If the system cant fetch an IP from DHCP server, it automatically assigns the ip (you will see limited connectivity icon)!Either check in modem settings for dhcp option or, manually put Ip with gateway ! Gateway is must !

yeah i manually did all those things..... i was jus worried is my pc hacked or somethin as this ip add was weird

G0ogle search :

a solution to ip address 169.254.x.x following guidelines
I simply went to services in administrative tools, right clicked on DHCP client stopped, waited for 5 secs and restarted DHCP client, unplugged ethernet cable from pc,restarted pc and router.
Turned on the router first and plugged in the ethernet cable back in as pc started again.
Checked ip address and pc picked up the right ip address letting me reconfigure the router.

I had the same problem with this wrong 169.254 ip address. Please check if you have set up WEP. If yes, check the authentication type; it must be \"Open Authentication\" on your wireless PC, otherwise the router can't send the right ip address acording to the DHCP range, and the PC assumes the 169.254 managed by APIPA. It's possible also to set up static IP address, but is not a good solution, and the conection is also very unstable.good look

Run->CMD->ipconfig /release (Enter) ipconfig /renew (Enter)? 30 sec power cycle? Finally Baseball bat, bet u could hit a home run!!!!

Why can't I connect with a 169.254.x.x IP address? - Ask Leo!
