Suggest a EDGE connection for Google Nexus One in India

Hmm well that was a lot of info! Thanks Sir. I will try it out with AirTel and let you know how it goes! What about iPhone users? I am suprised no body has bothered about the internet speeds we are getting! And yes I have heard of the 8,000+ Crore for the 3G Spectrum! But if they give it out cheap I am sure under one year they will be able to get back the money considering how many people are using mobile networks in India!

you really have no clue about the indian market right? indian market is dominated by cheap mobile phones. a typical indian customer does not like to pay more than 100-200 rupees for mobile usage. a lot of them cannot even afford to pay this much. forget smartphones. there is a very small market for it (relatively speaking).

there is no freaking way any mobile operator in the market can recover the money spent on 3G spectrum within one year. it would take them a couple of years to do so. you have to remember that they also have to spend money on infrastructure for 3G. mobile towers, network equipments and so on. it is not that simple.

and bandwidth itself is not very cheap. from what i have read on this forum... it still cost enough money. not as much as 100 bucks for 2GB which airtel is charging but still around 10-20 rupees per GB. they can afford to give cheap plans on Edge because the user is not going to do much with it. but if they do offer 3G services, data usage and network congestion is going to increase several times.

as for BSNL 3G. getting a SIM is a pretty hard task. getting customer support is next to impossible. and from what i have seen it is not very cheap. and there is no guarantee of service quality.

Well I did go to their customer service office, they dint tell me a thing basically gave me a paper and I dint understand anything they wrote and they dint care to explain, plus I was in a hurry that day! Looks like they dont care about their customers.

exactly. that is the reason i tend to stay away from anything labeled with BSNL. they do not care. they make losses. they complain about any change that might improve things for them (and their customers). but they do not care about what they are supposed to do. they had such a major advantage in 3G. they have simply let it go waste. it is unbelievable. i bet all the private operators who are soon going to launch their 3G services are laughing. and are amused what they would have done if they had such an opportunity in a market like india.

Hm anyway I will try using AirTel EDGE Network and see how it goes! I know a few of my frinds in Kerala are getting top EDGE speeds and Mumbai too with AirTel and AirCel

hehe. in india Airtel is known as Airtel not AirTel. :)

same is the case with Aircel.

Right thanks for that getting used to the Indian market now. Also how is BSNL coverage I am told it is very good and any estimates on the price of BSNL 3G at the moment because I might be able to get a SIM from a friend they gave me a booklet but it dosent say anything about unlimited data plans

Okay I did a test with Airtel and it seems that it wont even use EDGE it gets on GPRS very slow atleast Reliance loads some sites but Airtel dint load anything is the settings for EDGE and GPRS different ? I use the APN airtelgprs.com
