Hi all,I am Surrendering MTNL CPE (D-Link 502T Modem) and buying my own to avoid rent.I am paying a rent of Rs. 80 per month for the CPE (D-Link 502T Modem) and wish to buy my own modem (same as above). Price quoted by an electronics store is Rs. 1595 approx. How do I get my new modem configured? What is the procedure to be followed with MTNL whilst surrendering their modem and configuring my new modem? Also how is the reliability and warranty of this modem?Kindly help. Many thanks.

I thought 502T has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Are you sure it new & not refurbished? Check out Socrates?s experience: Configuring the D-Link 502T router for MTNL Broadband Do it yourself :) for configuration. I am using it from '05 and so far no problem. For procedure of surrendering, best to ring 1500 or 1504 and get latest info on it. In all probability you have to give it in writing along with the piece to your exchange but remember to take an acknowledgment :)

Yes these are new and not refurbished.

Thanks a lot for the link. Do I have to take my newly purchased modem for configuring at their end too? This is what they had done whilst getting the new rented modem from MTNL Centre, since the previous one stopped functioning. I am using the current modem since 2005 too and find it stupid to give Rs. 80 per month for the past 3 years. Buying is a better option but was sceptical earlier due to my past experience with this modem.

Acknowledgment is always insisted by myself. However, will give the call centre 1500 or 1504 a miss, since I prefer peace of mind than dealing with their staff. They answer as if they have done a big favour. Forget the answers they give...they lack telephone etiquette too :frown:.

Thanks a lot for your help socrates. Any more inputs guys?:)

The settings made by MTNL are also mentioned in my post, given to me by MTNL staff in 2005 :). But also download the user guide from the MTNL site for instructions on how to change password etc of course you might be knowing that by heart as you are an old customer :D

that's a sensible thing u r doing :)
No logic in paying 80 Rs per month [ for who knows maybe lifetime ]

Configuring should be easy :D

Anyways don't forget to share ur experience with the mtnl people with us ;)

even i should think about buying a new wifi modem for myself.i have been paying rent from last 2 yrs..i mite have paid around 1500 rs by now as rent.

after 2-3 yrs a person has paid almost the same amt. as the modem costs......so they shud stp taking monthly rent after that

its already more than 2yrs for me, still being charged the rent. but then i have an advantage, tomorrow i can go for wireless modem by just paying additional 300Rs.but yes they shud not charge rent once they recover modem cost and interest.

if u're bored with old modem - open it / short-circuit it or simply screw it - n get new for free....:cool2:
