synced to low speeds on mtnl broadband

@jithin_s: Your SNR values are too less and on top of that line attenuation is also very high. You need to get your line thoroughly checked for any high resistance. Ask the lines man to get your line checked from the exchange to your house using their testing kit which is done from the exchange end.

hey thanks a lot for the info.. no wonder i face regular disconnections..

WHat are u saying?? If he's on 256kbps he must be synced to 256 Downstream 512 DS on 512 kbps.

MTNL lazy babus dont take trouble to reduce the sync of users switched from limited 2mbps plan to 256 or 512 unlimited plans.

This happens with only MTNL, private ISP's are very strict with bandwidth management.
i dont think thats how it works, atleast in bsnl , the minimum sync rate is 2048kbps , even on a 256kbps UL connection..

If that would have been d case with BSNL then which technique they use to cap d speeds??How come a 256UL is distinguished from a 2mbps connection user? And why 256UL user is not synced to 256kbps, sicne it will boost his SNR marginas SNR is inversely proportional to sync speed.

No mention please buddy :D. I must warn you that getting your line checked from the exchange is not an easy job. The lines man may totally refuse at first but you have to coax him a lot either by using your communication skills or showing him the buck :cool2:.

they dont cap speeds based on that AFAIK , i use bsnl iptv and i'm synced to 8mbps , does that mean i have an 8mbps internet connection?

In MTNL, when I had booked for IPTV, which I rejected at later stage; I was getting 8 Mbps speed for internet purpose and I was synced to 8 Mbps.I used to get speeds >800 kBps.:yahoo:

heyy buddy

When i connected the modem to the main line directly (no spliiter and parallel phones), the SNR margin increased! the disconnections have also decreased substantially.. almost nil..

now the values are
SNR Margin 17.5db 12.0db dB
Line Attenuation 31.0db 20.5db dB

earlier it was
SNR Margin 12.0db 12.0db dB
Line Attenuation 32.5db 20.5db dB

**
PS: while using the splitter , i have followed the rules of the main line going into the spliiter without any parallel connections before that.. So what does this mean. Is there a problem with my splitter OR a problem with the line which goes from the splitter to my modem??

@jithin_s: Did you use the same wire which you use to connect your modem to the splitter when you connected your modem to the main line directly? If yes then the problem lies in the splitter & not in the wire connecting your splitter to your modem because if the problem would have been in the wire then even after connecting your modem directly to the main line your problem wouldn't have been solved as you were using the same wire.Just a makeshift solution to your problem:*Take a brush with hard bristles & clean all the jacks & ports of your splitter & modem.*Pick up your phone & wait for the dial tone to die down completely & listen for any noise or disturbances in your phone line.*Try & see if disconnecting the phone line from the splitter & using only the modem increases the SNR values. But I still insist you get your line checked thoroughly once by the lines man. Who knows if your problem will be solved by doing so :thumb:!
