As per their website, sun group has 5 Tamil, 7 Telugu, 2 Malayalam, and 5 Kannada channels. Tata Sky does not want more than 9 channels. It already has 6 Malayalam channels and 4 tamil channels.

Well well brother I want to ask you one thing. Who are they (Tatasky) to decide what we want to watch and what we don't want? They are always thinking about themselves. Even Zee Sports had been taken off. Do they think only Tech, Hitman & Aju are Tatasky subscribers? Sorry if I have missed to name few others.

now dishtv is also offering discounts for the renewals also 5% if paid for 6 months and 10% if paid for 1 year. so soon tatasky will follow them. as they are late everytime in adding channels , so hope they will also give discounts now.

Tata-Sky has 12 available transponders. So the number of channels it can show is limited. Also consider the fact that their set top box is configured to handle about 1000 channels. Categorisation by channel numbers is needed. Otherwise we will go mad searching for channels.In their infinite wisdom, they have reserved 100 slots in each category. As far as regional channels are concerned, 10 channels have been reserved for every major language. Some slots are already filled up. Limited slots in each category are available. I feel they are waiting for this exclusivity thing to clear up so that they can source international channels. Again, this Sun matter is dragging on too long.A second thing to note is the price. If they have to pay INR 4.5 for Raj (got the price from somewhere in these forums), INR 40+ for Neo, INR 10 for Goal, who is going to pay for all these. I don't want any hindi, regional, sports channels as I have said earlier. If they are going to do this they need to get their packages straight. But if they don't have the channels how do they create the packages. Its a classic chicken-and-egg problem.Again, it is somewhat unfair to put the entire blame on them. Murdoch wanted to bring in DTH in 1996 and had already created a team for that purpose. But the stupid UF government of the time put brakes on the same raising the bogey of national security because of possibility of Ku band transmissions being misused.Finally, DirecTv (US) is using big dishes with three and five lnbs to receive transmissions from three-five satellites simultaneously. They are planning to provide 150 HD Channels and have set top boxes with capability to show 10,000 channels. Their satellites have 24 Ku-band transponders at 500Mh (I don't know what this mhz thing is).Who is to explain this to the Indian Government and ISRO?Its a mad, mad, mad world!

If they have started in 1996 we would be banging and we won't be alive now nor the (Tata Sky) dth. They are greedy even with a competition from Dish Tv. I cannot post without mentioning Aju. He only could have survived because he eats lot of samosas.

24MHZ is bad.
I did not say 24 Mhz. I said 24 Ku-band transponders. INSAT-4A has 12, INSAT-4G is expected to have 18. DirecTv has three or five satellites each with about 12-24 transponders = min 36/ max 120.

Not entirely correct. Tata-Sky gives you everything including the kitchen sink for INR 300.
Dish Maxi (INR 300) = Dish Welcome + 25 additional channels.
Dish Welcome is a group of channels + One Regional bouquet.
There is a Disk Pick Service which allows you to pick certain channels from regional bouquets. But you have to pay additional INR 5 for every channel. INR 60 if you want every thing. Even here, I have serious doubts if I can (don't want to, just seeing if I can) have all Tamil and all Punjabi/ Hindi channels and all Marathi channels (i am multilingual - Tamil, Marathi, Hindi, English). Their website says no.

Murdoch runs Sky (UK). Till recently he owned DirecTv (US). When both providers have great packages and products to offer, why is their Indian counterpart lagging behind. Possible reasons - laws, insufficient transponder capacity, pathetic content, inept management or all of the above. So the above parties have to take some of the blame.

If not for Tata-Sky, DishTv had no incentive to improve.

Why is Tata-Sky not adding more channels? I don't know. Maybe we should catch hold of a Tata-Sky executive and beat the information out of him.

And can some one confirm if DishTv is showing Neo, Neo Sports Plus, Goal Tv etc.

Yes, another Samosa day. I think u did not enjoy your weekend as no samosas. but i am afraid today could be the last day of samosas as the settlement maybe finished today.(just hoping)
