i have noticed this bug from day one. but then i do not use SMS (except to delete the spam sms i get all the freaking time) so it has never bothered me much.

i wish sms on android was like gmail. i get a spam button to mark sms that i do not want to receive in the future. and so on.

now i remember how i jumbled up replying to wife and a friend.this was during my first few days of android useage, and i thought I am not yet comfortable with touch screen and Androidhowever i don't use it much for texting as its not my primary number currently.

people said that microsoft would become irrelevant in the next couple of years. not going to happen. of course, for a lot of people tablets running a mobile operating system is good enough. but the market for regular operating systems and regular web services and traditional software is not going to disappear just like that. they are going to lose a segment of the market to portable devices.

Its like comparing console gaming and PC gaming. Mobile world he describes (instagram ?) is tailor-made ,just like consoles and it will never be the best platform for tech enthusiast. Also google disappearing ? He can keep dreaming ..

How Apple's security flaw wiped a tech journalist's digital existence - Tech News - IBNLive

Hackers only needed to supply AppleCare representatives with a name, email address, mailing address and the last four digits of a credit card number linked to an AppleID over the phone to get hold of a temporary password.

With that temporary password they were able to gain access to Honan's iCloud account and then they erased his iPhone, iPad and MacBook that also consisted all the photos from the first year-and-a-half of his daughter's life.

Honan's Gmail ID was linked to his Apple @me.com ID and since he didn't have the two-step verification turned on for his Google account, hackers easily reset his Google password. Honan's Twitter ID (as well as his previous employer Gizmodo's) was linked to his Gmail, this led to unauthorised access of both the Twitter accounts.

An important link in the entire chain was Amazon.com. Hackers were able to get access to the last four digits of Honan's credit card number taking advantage of another security flaw in Amazon's process. His email ID was public and a simple web search revealed Honan's mailing address.

Mat Honan is currently trying to restore his digital existence and recover the data. One of the hackers got in touch with Honan and revealed the entire chain of events. Wired reports that Apple and Amazon are currently trying to plug the holes.

But I guess, same thing can happen if you link at other sites too...

About a year back, another journalist put up another article stating Apple wouldn't allow him to access his own account (he had lost access to his primary email ID), and it took him quite some follow up and convincing before he could lay his hands back on his account.

And Amazon and Apple have already changed their policies to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

If you are using Google, turn on 2 factor authentication. Could save you a lot of hassle if something remotely happens to you.
