Once this move is implemented, a (call) receiver will be able to see the name of the caller as per the latter's KYC record submitted to the telecom operator, even if the caller's name is not saved on his/her phone.

App? I thought TRAI wanted to bake this in Phone app itself on phones. Maybe I read it wrong somewhere.

yeah this is not app based. it would have to be implemented at company level. i am not sure how caller id works. but it seems like mobile companies would have to broadcast the kyc name. not sure how this works at the phone level. if phones are capable of taking this information and displaying it. because so far, caller id only has mobile number and any other information is displayed from local data.

It will work like US telecom operators phone will full name along with number when someone calls

ah good. that means both androids and iPhones are capable of picking up this data.

hopefully local data would still get preferences. i mean it is still a huge problem because both mom and dad's numbers would appear as my name when they call someone. not fun in the end.
