Tenet (2020)

With reviews about Inception stating that the movie is experienced best in movie halls, so I was asking if Tenet fell in the same category.
Given the pandemic, I would have anyway given it a miss. For most of Nolan's movie, I had to pause, rewind 2-3 times to understand. From what I hear here, might spend that money on something else, or watch it at home on a Blue ray copy.
@saarth and others.. is Momento really a downer? I had it on my watch list and now I read this.
 
i slept through the action sequences in tenet but it does not seem to have similar kind of visual effects that you would have preferred to enjoy on larger display. it is mostly a few road chases, some military action scenarios while most of the other stuff happens indoors or in a boat. no complex rotating world vfx here. it's all about two timelines operating at the same time.
 
I too would have definitely planned a theater visit, had it not been for the pandemic. I am beginning to think that you can probably read/understand later - But at the time of 1st watch you should just "feel" it.

Dunkirk is another example - I had not even watched the trailer or read anything about it & watched it blind on Amazon Prime - It was good visually, but I was lost for quite a while - but somehow the narrative managed to keep me intrigued, and I did read about it a bit later to understand it better. Have no regrets watching it though.

Maybe its akin to having a dish unheard of in a fancy place, and saying its kind of nice, not completely liking it, but not hating it either and not what are used to having, but not sure what exactly it is & then reading the recipe online later to understand what you just had - and going ah so that's what it was, and overall not a bad experience.
 
Tenet will keep you intrigued as well even if you don't understand the plot. And the thing about theatre watch of a Nolan movie is never its action sequences. It was more about how the sound works in those sequences. The Background score here is top-notch as well.

Though if you are in a theatre with no subtitles, good luck understanding any dialogue over that score. Another issue that every Nolan's movie seems to have. He focusses so much on the Background score that he doesn't give a shit if you can hear/understand the dialogue or not. I would have watched this in IMAX too if not for the pandemic. Chalo paise bach gaye.

Memento is an excellent film, and Nolan's best imo. Its a really good modern take on noir

Dunkirk is definitely a theatre movie, which seems like it was made to be experienced in IMAX. The plot and characters are all secondary to the experience in Dunkirk's case.

I had the same experience when watching Dunkirk. Lost in between. Ended up feeling disappointed despite knowing the history.
Need to take some cues from here to read in-depth about the movie/watch on YouTube about what the movie tries to depict. Maybe doing so would have made me feel better.
I did the same with Chernobyl mini series though I understood it, watching it from different angle gave me a different perspective.
