The author of that article doesnt know what is customer car, his argument is totally stupid. Vijay Mallya bought a car company and not car spare parts.(except engine). But buyign engine is understandable, engine development is too tough esp when there is freeze on it.

I read and heard enough crap about the items being sold at an auction. Auction of items which once belonged to father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi. Indian government as usual wanted things to happen their way. No one cared about these items all this time. But now, it became a moral issue for them to do something about it. I read in papers yesterday that Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the government would do anything to get those items back to India. Even if it involved bidding for them. Looks like they did not enter the contest eventually. Dr. Vijay Mallya came to the rescue once again. He bought the items spending millions of his own money for these items.And to think that he faced enough hurdles from the Indian government to bring back other items he had purchased abroad in auctions in the past.
This guy surprises me by his patriotism. Names his F1 car after India. Logo is tricolor. Paints it with tricolor as well. Highlights Indian sponsors on car.

The Hindu : National : Gandhi memorabilia “automatically come under the ownership of Navjivan Trust”
It is only through Gandhi’s will prepared on February 20, 1940, that the Navjivan Trust can stake claim to the Father of the Nation’s personal belongings. In his will Gandhi said he did not believe that he had any property, but “anything which by social convention or in law is considered mine, anything movable or immovable, books, articles etc. I endow to the Navjivan Institution whom I hereby declare as my heirs.”

heh. it was not canceled eventually. mallya got it all over the phone through his representative at the auction. the guy rocks. 
as for ownership. i hope mallya plays a hard ball before giving it away to the Navjivan Trust. the indian government owes him every penny that he spent on these items. considering they failed to buy them on their own.
