1st things 1st.iI read some post in this thread comparing anaglyph, polaroid & active shutter glass(ed)3D to the format wars like plasma vs lcd or hd-dvd vs blu-ray. It's not the same people.The latter mentioned "wars" was a fight btween equals.But in case of 3d the anaglyph 3d is like "BABA ADAM KE ZAMAANE" ka 3d. that was the 3d with those coloured glasses.Then came polaroid 3d, which you see in theatres these days.& now is the time of the 3d
tvs which use active shutter glasses.5he basic rule of 3d is making each your eye see only the image ment for it. one image at a time. In active shutter tech. the tv projects the same image twice, BUT one is form your right eye's perspective and the other of your left eye. tje glasses provided with the tvs sync automatically with the tv once you switch them on.then all it does is let the light from your tv into your eyes onoy one at any given time. so when the tv projects the image for your right eye, the left side of your glases turns opaque so that only the right eye sees that image & then when the image for the left eye is projected, the right side turns opaque & the left side opens up.This might seem a bit confusing & weird for the ones who didnt know about this, but beleive me, you cannot make out much difference when the glasses are turned on.But yeah, the surroundings do get dimmer once the glasses are turned on, as if your normal specs suddenly turned into a sunglads with a very mild tint.& all the "latest" personal 3d content coming out supports this format.like 3d blu-ray movies, ps3 games.So I suppose the broadcast on this dth will support active shutter tvs only.Regarding the content. Yeah, it's pretty much just like a kid who just hit puberty.we dont even have half a dozen full hd channels even a year after the launch of hd dth. so thinking about good 3d content right now is more of a wet dream. =\ =P even in the developed countries, the content for tv viewing is not great. So I am sure the private 3d channel over here would just play a few movies/shows repeatedly.btw you do have the ps3 which now supports 3d gaming. So with the right games in your collection, you'd end up being blown away by the effects or with a severe head ache in case of a game with bad 3d effects.& about the issue of converting 2d content to 3d. if you didn't know, all the new 3d tvs come with a convertion software in them.About the quality.. well all I can say is that it's like those 30 HD channels offered by some dth providers.Yes, stuff does look 3D ..ish, but if compared to the actual 3d contnt like on the blu rays. I say converted 3d would score 3 on 10 as compared to 9 on 10 for the other.& about comparing the types of 3d. Active shutter > polarized > anaglyph.Yes the latter two are much cheaper & the right option for one time viewing. but if you think you'll end up watching 3d regularly, the A.S 3D is better.PS- There is a 55 inch 3D
Bravia in my living room with a 3d bluray player, a PS3, 6 pair of AS glasses & dozen x3 bluray disks consisting of games & Movies. so if anyone wants to try, you're welcome in ky home.. or maybe not. =P. & about the tvs that let us see 3d without glasses.Those tvs are still in a very earpy stage of development. even though toshiba has launched one of these tvs already,but it's way too expensive. Nintendo uses the same tech,which lets yiu see 3d without glasses. fyi, spice mobile has a 3d mobile device with this tech available in india =0.So I guess I wouldn't be jumping on to this unless it turns out to be REALLLLLLLLY GOOD. & a lot of 3d content shows up from nowhere.Even if I would want to get one, I'd wait for TS to launch it.
