It was initially ordered as a seven-episode series. When Sam Levinson joined, it became a 6 episode series. Thanks to the stellar reviews, HBO announced today that it will contain only 5 episodes. How bad a show has to be that you waited 5 days before the broadcast that the next episode will be the finale? Anyway. It is still 5 episodes too long.
