The point of a 5GB or 10GB (etc) plan isn't to sit there downloading until the cap is used up and then suffer 256kbit/s for the rest of the month. Such a plan is designed for someone who would only use 5GB in a month - the kind of people who only uses Facebook, a bit of websurfing and email and maybe some IM - probably no Youtube, probably no Torrents or anything else.

Frankly, if a plan of (say 100GB) was available and you took a 5GB plan only, then this isn't the ISPs fault - it would be yours for taking a plan that's not suited to your usage levels and not taking the one that is.

well the point is very simply, you have to go for the plan that you know meets your requirement. there would be customers who would make the mistake of going for plans that are below their requirement... but then who can blame them.

Actually that's not quite accurate. It's 2mbit/s until the bill-cap value (Rs1999) and then they switch you over to 256kbit/s, so those plans work out to be
3+6.75GB, then 256k or 6+6 then 256k, both at Rs1999.

It looks like a crappy plan, but it's designed for the light user who is only going to use 3 or 6GB. I just hope they SMS the customer when he's close to using his quota.

Got it.... But, either way -- the plans dont look friendly to the low-end segment, say for a 15-25 GB user like me. I need to go for minimum 999 plan.

That's true...we don't want 10/50/100 mbps..just give us 1 or 2 mbps for < Rs.1000 with a decent FUP.

@mgcarley You too should have a plan for Rs.500 otherwise you'll be in lot of trouble. Maruti/Hero Honda understood India well so they are doing good. Enthusiasts are very less here in India. People talk about Ferrari,BMW,Audi when their particular models are not launched soon here. But when they launch they go & buy Alto/Swift coz it gives more mileage.
Try to feel the pulse of the broadband users in India otherwise you'll learn it the hard way.

the plans for the low-end segment are also not value for money compared to old plans. for example the old plan "Impatience 699" had a limit of 5GB where as the new plan "alpha 3GB" costs rs649 and has only a limit of 3GB and the plan "alpha 6GB" costs rs799
