Kevin Feige is a crazy opportunist. Taika Waititi wasn't free because he was supposed to make Akira for Warner Brothers. And as soon as WB announced that they are delaying it, Kevin seized the opportunity very quickly. WB wanted to delay so that Waika can do a better job of finding the right talent for the movie.

And now with this announcement, WB was so caught off guard that they have put Akira on indefinite hold. They are now waiting for Waika to finish Thor 4 first.
