is it possible that there be a minimum number of posts required, to allow a person to start a new thread (say for example, 25 which can be achieved very easily). this would automatically control the spamming on this forum as spammers start new threads only...what say people?.... or any other idea?

That isn't a good idea. A lot of people join forums to ask for help more than anything else. If one needs 25 posts just for starting their first topic, then it would be better to go somewhere else and get help.IMO, measures to stop spambots is already in place, just report the post. Nothing else is really needed. Most of us already can distinguish the spam from genuine posts.

I agree with @karan.

A person visits this forum, after searching in Google etc, and straightaway registers, and starts a thread with any fancy title. to outline his problem, or give some valuable information. Some have even dug up very old threads and given their comments.
Gradually learns to use "search" option" tags , etc and posts one's comments/suggestions/solutions etc in proper thread.
There is no reward/award/prizes for starting a thread.

we have few spams... no need for any such restrictions.
i think almost every third day we get those iPhone at $300 spams

Maybe a limitation... to be permitted to start only one new thread a day.

but that would limit people (or bots rather) who give us news

i noticed that the spammers usually make 3-4 new threads. what about a post count of 5?

btw a general question, are spammers, people or bots? if bots then even a post count of 5 should not be a problem...?? (& should not affect much even to people who want to get some problem solved...)

btw forgot sushubh has already given his verdict that no measure is required:P

that is i think few spams... if the anti spam things were not working, we had get those posts every other hour (or minute)...i think we have already made posting a new post pretty tough for bots...on registration, the user has to input special fields specific to this forum (broadband connection type etc.).on posting a new thread, the user is required to put in a post type (question/suggestion). this is also specific to this forum.

this is absolutely not possible. most people join for help. if you keep a restriction of minimum 25 posts before starting a new thread, they would just search somewhere else. besides, the bots will then post their spam in other discussion threads, which would be even more worse.

there arent too many spams here. just ignore them and report themand theyll be taken care of by the mods. :)
