I've been using Ubuntu for 6 months now (I've been a Windows user for 20 years).

My view is that it's the best distro for beginners (and others) that's feature packed and still easy to use.

I would not recommend most of above distros as they come and go.

One should pick popular distros as you easily find supporting people online. Or enough documentation.

Otherwise with not enough support - people tend to blame Linux!! :D

If you really want to "learn" complete linux then you should use Arch Linux. Because you need to do everything on own which is good learning experience. And once you learn it - its easy always up-to-date because its rolling distro. There is good community of support people

If you want easy installation then may be Ubuntu or Fedora. But then you need to do major upgrades every 6 months to 1 year as support for older versions decreases.

If you are not with Ubuntu, you will find a hard time finding drivers for your peripherals.

@meetdilip Linux Mint, Zorin, Lite, elementary and Chalet OS are Ubuntu based so you shouldn't have hard time finding drivers for your peripherals.

I agree about the variants. But I even skipped Linux Mint for being beginner friendly. It is simple enough to Google " some error in 14.04 " and get support than other keywords.

If I understand right, Ubuntu Software Center too looks like a luxury in Linux Mint. Right ?

Being dealing with linux web servers for 15+ years, and I personally love Ubuntu, it would need another decade to reach masses for any other distros.
