Subject: "Altis G quickie test drive thoughts"Took a test drive of a silver Altis G today (with "Test Drive Vehicle" and "Drive the Envy" decals) with my mom and aunt in the back and we were quite disappointed:* Main issue is the lack of seating space inside, my folks sitting in the rear were complaining and the driving position (after adjusting) was not comfortable enough. My Palio's driver/passenger space is better! And I'm 6 ft over 100 kgs build

* The car feels like a toy compared to my Palio with all its fancy electric power steering and the throttle was feather light. Now I don't mind the steering being so light (prefer heavy) but the steering gave no feedback and the throttle gave no resistance/damping and was hard to control the engine RPMs and gear shifting, especially on the bad roads. Considering Honda mentions their "drive by wire" throttle and Toyota does not I'm worried now that the Civic's might also be too light. I guess the only the talented/technical race drivers like "drive by wire" throttles for perfect control!* Engine was certainly quiet but not very smooth, sounded like a tinny maruti 800 heh, but power/acceleration was decent. (cant compare to others, will test the Civic perhaps next weekend).* Gear (shifting) was very ordinary again, didnt feel solid and you couldn't make out whether you had properly changed or not.* Brake pedal and braking itself was quite firm/sensitive with less travel and you had to be controlled with it to avoid sudden jerks.* Clutch pedal was very light (good thing) felt like it was powered too compared to Palio. But I would have prefered if the clutch was as light as the accelerator and the accel was a little firm like the clutch heh.* Unsure about handling/power curve because of the traffic conditions but handling (at least the roll on a sweeping u-turn curve) was better than Palio - Palio rolls like a
boat and the Altis felt like a smaller nimbler car funnily. Wheelbase is about 4 inches shorter than a Civic which means the boot is larger I believe but the rear seating space is very lacking as experienced today. Suspension felt firm (I did a low speed multi S-shaped swerve along the way and the roll was not horrible).* Build quality is good enough I guess but its like a cheap Jap Crap car, - high-tech but absolutely no feel of luxury - even the "leather wrapped" steering was hard and slippery when steering leather is supposed to be soft and to stick to your palms for comfort.
Music system was decent enough (but I would add a subwoofer since I like to play it a little loud) and things like the display guages/meters, steering audio controls and the electric mirror adjustment/retract controls was nifty.* Fuel meter was displaying avg. 9.8 kmpl which the Toyota guy said was accurate that means I believe Civic's mileage might be better.* I tried to go as slow as possible in third gear without stalling knocking the engine then floor the pedal to see the performance since people say the Altis has better lower-range power/torque. Again, it was decent (since I dont have good comparision yet) but will wait to try the Civic before judging that part.(The GL model (didn't try that one) has those HID/xenon bluish headlamps which look cool whenever one of them passes by from ahead...)People say the Civic is a better driver's car compared to the Corolla so I'm hoping it's true else will really be disappointed and forced to wait to try the Cedia.
