Desperate measure. Price dropped to $695. Final price according to Canonical.
Not helping still. $8,887,123.

This is just sad. Canonical is comparing specs of a phone they are going to launch next year with specifications of phones that are on sale today. I am losing all the respect for this project now. Hopefully they do not meet their target which seems very likely right now.
And things are quite desperate in the Ubuntu Edge land.

“So ends a crazy month. We’ve broken records, we’ve been written and talked about across the world, we’ve worn out our F5 keys, and we’ve learned a lot of invaluable lessons about crowdfunding. Our bold campaign to build a visionary new device ultimately fell short, but we can take away so many positives,” Mark Shuttleworth of Canonical wrote in an update on the Indiegogo campaign page.
During this last month Ubuntu Edge campaign raised just over $12.8 million from 27,000 backers including Bloomberg LLC, which pledged $80,000 for the campaign. The backers will now receive refunds.

Well, I could pedict its outcome based on the first day collection itself. Ubuntu made an error by not getting some tech corporate backing. Bloomberg is not really a tech biggie! Had someone like a Google or Yahoo or Intel or Qualcomm committed a million each, it could have been a different story.

And with that they would have got considerable saying in designing and releasing of device. Don't we already have enough companies for that.
