Greetings.

I am trying to change my DNS servers to that of NextDNS. I have changed both the IPv4 and IPv6 DNS servers. Restarting the router seems to make it fallback to the default settings even after saving the changes i've made. Any way to retain these settings so only nextdns servers are used?

Secondly, these changes are not being applied on my phone. I am on the same network but jio's dns servers are being used instead of nextdns.

Please help me out.

Hey!

If you switch your DNS to NextDNS, it just switches back after restarting your router, like nothing has happened. It's painful, I know!

Changing DNS settings can be a hassle on some routers, especially those from ISPs like Jio. Every time they reboot, they reset back to their default settings.

What you can do:
  • Your router's settings can be accessed by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser.
  • Put your NextDNS addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6) where it says DNS.
  • Reboot the router after saving it properly.

You might have a router that is forcing its own DNS if it still switches back. Then:
You can change your DNS directly on your phone. You can manually enter NextDNS servers in Wi-Fi settings by tapping your network, then looking for DNS options. Better yet, download the NextDNS app for your phone. No matter what your router does, NextDNS will always be used.

If you're using NextDNS, check https://my.nextdns.io on your phone to see if it's working.

Connect another slave router to the main router via LAN

Install openwrt on slave router

Configure dns over https in openwrt - https dns proxy package

Use access point of slave router

Peace of mind
