Hi,
I am a MTNL Triband (850NU) user. I have been using the Starcom UT340(?) router since the last 5 months now. It is directly connected to my onboard LAN slot on A8NE. On top of this I have configured (by following instructions from a website) PPOE connection for the same (to enable scheduled dial ins/disconnects)

Yesterday all of a sudden my PPOE connection failed. On exploring more, I found that I was not able to ping my router at all. I have tried the following

1. Change the lan cable connecting router + PC.
2. Change the slot in the router.
3. Check the light (displaying connectivity on the mobo) - its working
4. Enable/disable the hardware (nVidia networking controller) - still nothing
5. The router does show the light of the slot that i am using and the tray icon too displays it as connected.
6. Restart the router umpteen times.
7. Reset the router.
8. Try DHCP and a static address on the PC (192.168.1.2)

Please let me know what else can I try. How do i know whether its the router or my onboard mobo LAN slot which went kaput. I dont have any extra router or a LAN card to check this

Please help.

Suggestion 1 :Check in Device Manager the status of your embedded ethernet card.
Start/ Control Panel/System/Device Manager. Yellow mark needs investigation.
Suggestion 2 : If you have the CD for the modem,
a)upload the drivers for USB to say C:/utusb ( do not connect the modem ).
b)switch off computer.
c)restart and attach Modem to USB port
d)for System to detect new Hardware.
e) follow procedure to load drivers. Seems No USB port in this modem Only 4 LAN ports.
Suggestion 3: In IE clear all temp files/history etc. Then try.
Suggestion 4 : Any virus problem ? recheck.

For reference : After you get connected ? Modem 304R2U

Go to bottom of page and download user manual, if needed: 459KB. PDF file.

Thank you1. The modem does not have a USB port2. The adapter is working well in Device manager - drivers are updated.

> You said static ip 192.168.1.2....that ip is reserved for USB on router. Try 192.168.1.3 and it should work.> try running the network set up wizard located on left side on network connection page> try installing drivers of lan card through device manager> change the ethernet card speed to 10 mbpsduplex from auto negotiation mode

^^ Tried everything above - nothing works. The problem seems to lie with the router as it has not started showing lights erroneously i.e. even when the MTNL line is not connected, it would show the xDSL light on - The LAN light goes off at times, etc.

there should be a RESET button, behind /under the router.keep it depressed for 10 sec and see if that takes everything back to factory settings

Tried connecting my router to a notebook and it works - so it looks like the problem is with my onboard LAN on my PC. But the ethernet light does come on and i am able to ping to the local loopback adapter. Not sure why it wont ping the router though
