Unable to Upgrade Samsung Galaxy Ace to 2.3.6

Huh thanks for this update. :thumbdown: I am showing this to my family who till now used to swear by Samsung products now maybe they will swear at. :livid: Sounds like a N Korean company. I have seen their site really does not inspire confidence. I suppose they are still in the first flush of roaring sales so they don't really care about our opinions.

heh. had a long discussion with a friend about the phone i should buy to replace my aging nexus s. he told me to wait for the superphone Galaxy s iii. told him, i am done with samsung devices. nexus s has been a disappointment since day one. i am now deciding between two models... htc one s and Sony xperia s. if sony had launched xperia s with ics, i would have probably gone for it right away. apparently it is already on sale in india for around Rs. 32k. waiting for the arrival of htc one s in the market. if it is priced nicely, would get it. by the way. mumbai guys can now buy the galaxy nexus from the gray market for as low as 26k.

Still having battery backup issue in Ace when using internet. (Both HSDPA and EDGE).

These are the problems I faced after I upgraded from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6. I have given my phone to the Authorised Service Center twice in the last two weeks. On both occasions they gave it backs saying problems are fixed but when I check its the same. My problems are



[*]Full battery notification sound & icon (in notification bar) does not work. Solved. See post #33 below.
[*]Battery drains v fast.
[*]Noticed that battery charges very fast whereas in the past from 25% to full would take about 1 hour 50 mins to 2 hrs now happens in about 30 – 45 mins. In fact when I took delivery of my phone yesterday 30th Mar 2012 & put it on charging it was 32% charging then it went to 85% charging in about 27 mins & to full in total of 42 -45 mins. This point was observed in the service center today when the phone was put on charging.
[*]This problem is regarding the incoming sms ringtone & delivery report ringtone.

In ver 2.3.4

In ver 2.3.6

When (a) notification ringtone was set thru setting->sound-> notification ringtone & (b) a separate (custom) incoming sms ringtone was set thru sms menu->settings->ringtone. Then (a) worked for delivery report & (b) worked for incoming sms. Which is correct & as it should be.

When (a) notification ringtone was set thru setting->sound-> notification ringtone & (b) a separate (custom) incoming sms ringtone was set thru sms menu->settings->ringtone. Now in this ver when (b) is set to ‘Default’ then for both incoming sms & delivery report the ringtone set in (a) works. But when I set a custom ringtone for incoming sms ie (b) then for both incoming sms & for delivery report the custom sms ringtone works.

When I went to the service center the engineer there told me that after typing *#1234#Showed me this on my phonePDA: S5830DDKQ8PHONE: S5830DDKQ8CSC: S5830DDKQ7He told me this is the latest s/w (even though I had these problems only after updating OTA). Can others who have updated from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 please confirm if you have the same display after trying out the code AND if you have the same problems as I have listed in post #27 above. I was told by this engineer that points (1) & (4) are now normal for this ver of firmware for the other points I am still testing the phone but I have a strong suspicion that these guys are giving me BS as Samsung India has not released a change log for India for this ver.My phone shows the following in About Phone2.3.6s5830DDKQ8Kernal ver 2.6.35.7-perf-CL972857dpi@dell166#1 Build No.gingerbread.ddkq8@ashish, @amar can you try this.

Notification sound works for me but Battery backup is too bad.

Our version numbers are identical. So my suspicion that the guy was bull shitting me seems correct.So correct me if I am wrongSo (1) of post #27 works for you.What about point (4) of post #27? How does that works for you? Is it like its mentioned in column one ie 2.3.4 or like in column two ie 2.3.6And even I noticed that the battery lasts max 1 day for me now & worse the battery charges in literally half the time as in the past & phone gets hot.
