I am still a bit bewildered that people still see everyone who was on this side of the Indus Valley, even before the 19th century as "Indian" and "Indian freedom fighters" etc.. in the same breath as Indians are referred to as now.

My point being that there was no India as in India the country then.. If anyone fought the British, it was for his own province or expand his kingdom, not for the cause of "India"

Anyone who fought against British was a Indian Freedom Fighter Period.

Ok.. So the Portugese/French/Dutch who fought the British in India are Indian freedom fighters too

i am watching this movie which has naseer as a cook. and one of the scenes had him complaining about the british invasion. he said that it would have been better if french had progressed beyond pondicherry because the fusion of french and indian cuisine would have been exquisite. we ended up with brits whose best contribution to food is fish and chips. :\

Exactly. This lack of unity is what caused british to conquer whole of bharathvarsh one by one. Bharth at that time was made up of todays india, pakistan and other areas.

The fact is that word Hindu was given by Arabs. Hindu words is nowhere mentioned in Vedas/puranas.
However Arabs uses Hindu words to whole population living to the east of Indus river. Hindus used to have two religions in old times SHAIVA and BHAGAVAT.
Greeks called this country India on the basis of Indus river.
So we deserve Indus river more than Pakistan.
