Upgrading iPhone 3GS to latest iOS 4.5

Hey, Need some serious help from you guys.I have an unlocked iPhone 3GS from abroad which I upgraded in Mumbai with iOS 4.1. I am using MTNL Trump SIM in it and its going good. I get an option in iTunes to upgrade it to the latest iOS 4.5 which I want to. Now since we are getting unlocked iPhones officially from many operators in India, will it get locked if I upgraded to iOS 4.5 on my own ? Do I have to unlock it using the software else get it unlocked from the mobile shops OR will it work perfectly after upgrading.Thanks in advance.Deepak

It may get locked if you try updating it to iOS 4.5 and then you will have to unlock it again. There are several ways to unlock/jailbreak it, Mobile shops will do it for you but am not sure of iOs4.5 can be done yet.

My mistake. Actually the new version is 4.3.5 which I want to upgrade but fearing that it might get locked also.

@prince76 Is your iPhone 3GS officially unlocked or jailbroken & unlocked via ultrasn0w? If it is the latter then stay away from any update via iTunes. Upgrading to iOS 4.3.5 will also update your baseband (modem firmware version) and you will not be able to unlock your iPhone. Ultrasn0w does not work with any baseband versions that came after iOS 4.1. On the other hand, if your iPhone is an officially unlocked one, you can update to iOS 4.3.5.
