Yeah, recaps are necessary when there is a break so that we can catchup without having to go through the previous seasons again.
 
It was fun, not too attached or detached. But the topic of life after death is weird. The original biological body dies, the copy lives and we watching the show feel like nothing has changed until we give it a little thought. Altered Carbon also explored the same life after death in a different way. But in both, the original human expired and it's a copy of the original in it's last saved state.

Star Trek also has the transporter buffer which saves a being in its last known state. M'Benga saves his daughter in the buffer until he finds a cure.
