I have a MTNL Broadband connection with the MTNL modem in Mumbai.I used to be in Pune earlier where I had a UTStarcom Type 4 Modem from BSNL. I want to the BSNL Modem as a backup for my MTNL modem. I had given the modem to the MTNL guys & they tried a few things but couldn't get it to work.I am planning to try on my own this weekend, so wanted to check if anyone has tried this has any pointers for this?

It *should* work without too much difficulty. Probably what you need to change are the VPI/VCI settings and of course the username/password.

See this Technical Details :)

All the examples shown there have a MTNL webpage for the modem. My BSNL modem has a BSNL dataone webpage for the settings. So none of those pages are helpful.

For BSNL supplied modems/routers see the "sticky" thread in BSNL forum.
WA3002_g4 quick reference by me.
Select your modem/router and check link for screenshots /settings etc.
or check the calcutta telephones link. ( No 8 ?)
2.
Basically VPI/VCI for MTNL is 0 32. ( BSNL 0 and 35 )
Use MTNL Id PW
Enable DHCP ( to use more than one system)
DNS : obtain automatically.
WIFI mode no changes.
Upload Connection status page and give link here.
3.
If you reset the modem/router to factory settings (
all links ( usually 8) are set for "bridged" mode AND you can use a Dialer in computer to connect.
if no connection do manual settings again.
Feedback.
