It makes no sense to go for Gigabit connection in our country simply due the backbone infrastructure we have.

1. You will lose most of the speed due to poor routing with other countries.
2. Not every service, even Steam, PSN, XBox store have capability to upstream 1Gbit speed all the time. You will more likely to get somewhere around 200Mbit to 600Mbit

It's very different for a US based customer to have a Gbit plan because they have multiple endpoints for single service in their country so the traffic is evenly distributed.

Lastly, I am assuming that your primary storage device is an NVMe SSD not HDD and not SATA SSD.

I would like to clarify some points to anyone reading my post
1)My issue is not mainly speed problem
2) I have used gigabit internet before so I am aware which services can give 1 Gbps speed
Google, fast, Microsoft can due to local peering.
3)backbone still dosen't explain why Google services stops working randomly.
And yes, I am using a NVMe ssd for testing but SATA ssd (non DRAM less models) is nowhere near bottlenecking a gigabit connection

Oh yes, SATA SSD can be a bottleneck depending on how you use it. SATA controllers are not best known for multilane data transfer and an indexing from your OS can affect your Gbit connection speed on SATA SSD.

Besides, that seems not to be your issue. I have tested Jio's gigabit connection for more than 2 years and I have came to conclusion that we are not there yet. Some services do provide 1Gbit upstream connection sometimes but not always and especially not most of the time. I am currently on 300Mbps connection and services like PSN and Xbox store can't some times provide me full speed. They are usually capped at 100Mbit.

As for Torrents, I use torrent very less but last time I downloaded Ubuntu 18.04, I got full 300Mbit speed. Never tested it on Gbit connection, though.

Sometimes Google services stops working completely for few minutes, Amazon and flipkart loads just fine

This is really weird. In order to dig further, what have you tried? Have to tried to look up google via dns? If the issue is in dns, it can be caught here. When dns is not the issue, go for the next step... try to use curl to find the possible error. Bit tricky to catch the culprit, but possible.

Speed related issues are difficult to troubleshoot and takes longer to troubleshoot too. I’d try to switch the ont and/or the router. Unless it makes a huge difference in my browsing, downloading or uploading, I don’t usually care about the speed, though. But, that’s just me.

The ISPs themselves have very limited bandwidth. And also are you stupid or what?

ISPs cannot hide behind "We have very limited bandwidth". Do you know there is a TRAI provision that ISPs needs to provide at least 80% of the speed of what they claim they would? So if Google, Steam, PSN, Microsoft servers are capable to provide 1Gbit all the time, you should be able to get it. Their limited bandwidth can never be an excuse.

I also don't care too much about speed but the connection acts quite unstable, I was using excitel 100 Mbps before this and it was much better than airtel which shouldn't be the case.
I have tried using Google as well as cloudfare's DNS server and it does not help.
However using cloudfare's WARP+ Google services starts working again most of the times but sometimes everything stops working on WARP+
I am also unable to do speedtest on Airtel Broadband server 95% of the times, it just fails to start whereas on Airtel 4G it works fine

I don't know if it's normal or not but the exchange I am connected to has around 4000 users(all FTTH) and is using a 10 Gbit line

TRAI rule of having minimum 80% bandwidth is only upto the isp node.
Unless you have an SLA with the isp (which is only done on Leased lines) you can't complain.

Don't try to be a smartass, we all know the regulations, which suck by the way. As @vignesh_venkatesan already explained. ISPs have limited bandwidth from the ISP node to the customer end.

If you have a problem with that, talk to TRAI personally, maybe you can change their minds 🤣
