The new site is good, also allows to purchase online, something most brands in India don't do from their home site.

Kindly make DD in favor of M/s. Videocon Industries Limited & send it to your concerned branch. More Detail click here

i dont think this is equal to online shopping.

Ha! Is that the case? I saw the shopping cart and the symbols of Visa and Master Card, so assumed it was online shopping :wall:

well i check for AC and the only option i got was to 'send a request for quotation' and the above comment. :)

I think you followed the old link. There is a new site that they have launched [http://www.edigiworld.com] whose link is available in small font somewhere near the right of the page. There you can do the regular online shopping stuff.

And speaking of AC, if you are really interested, they have a combo offer too :D

That's one smart thing Videocon has done over the years - focussed on their core segment, instead of trying to please all. They have a very strong market outside the Tier I and to some extent the Tier II markets, and to top it, their acquisition of the Indian franchisees of some of the 'phoren' brands has helped them maintain an overall lead in terms of sales of consumer durables. I remember sometime back LG had disputed Videocon's claims of being the consumer durables leader since Videocon's sales comprised of 5 - 6 different sub-brands whereas LG was the single largest brand.

i don't doubt videocon's capabilities as a consumer electronics maker. they are pretty huge. they acquired Thomson colour TV tube business few years back which was a great indian acquisition. they have however largely disappeared from the major cities. i guess the focus is on smaller cities.

That's because of brand perception. Videocon, due to whatever reasons, has a poor brand value, particularly in the metros. My guess would be that it is not related to anything bad they did, on the contrary it has got to do with the mindset common in the larger cities that 'phoren' is good. I am not immune to this ideology either, which is why every single time I wanted to purchase a household item, though I knew I could get a good and reliable Videocon product for much cheaper, I still went for the costlier foreign brand, because it was just that - foreign.

heh. i am biased towards Philips for television sets, Hitachi for acs. videocon fits nowhere in the picture. they have shah rukh khan as their brand ambassador. so that's as disappointment as well. they cannot use SRK to promote their D2H service coz he is associated with dish tv. so there is a major clash of interests.
