Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with US-based satellite communication company AST SpaceMobile to provide direct-to-device satellite broadband connectivity. AST SpaceMobile is building a space-based cellular broadband network that is accessible directly by everyday smartphones.

Direct-to-device connectivity is a technology that allows regular devices (mobile phones, smartwatches, etc.) to connect with both terrestrial and satellite networks without the need for additional hardware.
