Vodafone Launching iPhone in India Soon?

Hi, I heard from some reliable sources that iPhone is going to be launched in India in couple of months through Vodafone network. does anyone heard about it? please confirm. I was going to purchase iPhone from US and get it through one of my friend who is coming to India. but after hearing the news that Vodafone is going to launch it in India, I am in dilemma now. I was discussing about purchasing iPhone from US with my friend, who have very good contacts in Telcos in India told me that Vodafone is going to launch it in couple of months. I am not sure how reliable is this. I am in dilema now. should I get it from US or wait for it to be launched in India? I would be glad if anyone confirms this. Please don't hitback at me saying that I am spreading rumour.I just wanted to get it clarified. Thanksmnreddy

Quite possible. But I feel vodafone is sleeping... I was expecting them to launch some good high range handsets bundled with their connection... but nothing came from their side except that magic box which was not worth!! If this iPhone news is true then it'll be great.

Magic box was an instant hit among the common. For just around 1000Rs, you get a handset + connection + 6 months incoming + free calls b/w vodafone + talktime + free SMS + no network lock + lot of freebies.... How else can you define the worthiness?Maybe that was not worth for you.

I currently hold Vodafone magic box working with Airtel SIM. Magicbox is a really good phone at Rs.1600/-I had to buy Magic box as my Nokia E50 went for a toss in Bay of Bengal last month and stopped working even after I got it serviced.I was looking for a Good phone with in my budget and couldn't find one. So I bought the Magicbox in the interim and still searching for a good handset. I was about to order iPhone in US, but this vodafone iphone news confused me..

I have not seen any rumors about an iPhone launch in India. Even the talks between Apple and China have failed. I dont think anything's gonna happen till Summer 2008. But if the iPhone is launched in India, its going to be big hit.

iPhone sales and interest in world markets has been dying down lately.Its not been able to generate the LONG TERM buying craze that the iPod could achieve.When the world is looking at iPhone killer mobiles from rival manufacturers, should we be really interested in a 8GB max model?

japan would be their first priority... they are yet to launch it in canada. india would make for an easy market tho. people pay shit money here for mobile phones.

Yup, when the markets in the US and Europe dry up,............places like Japan, Canada,S. Korea and India would seem to be the most logical places to sell it.Ofcourse they wont do it in China, coz the chinese probably had fake iPhones before the Americans even saw it on their store shelves :rofl:

well the markets in US and Europe are pretty much already saturated. the reason why vodafone paid big bucks to acquire hutch in india... launching iPhone in india is going to be a special event for india considering Apple has avoided indian market generally. surely they are collaborating with reliance to open iStores in india... but still. Apple has ignored india since a long time. we are yet to see an indian version of Apple iTunes. apple products tho officially available are sold at a mega premium.the iphone model has been special for the market. apple collaborates with the mobile service provider to deliver specific services which are available to the iphone users. vodafone seems to be the likely candidate as they are yet to deliver that killer product in the market to lure customers away from airtel... they have the money. they lost the deals in the europe, they would do good by winning apple's deal for india.
