What are the benefits of having a static ip?

What are the benefits of using a static ip?
One being I can host a website and it remains accessible.
What are the problems?

why would you host your website on your home pc it will be much more costly comparing to buying hosting from a webhost.
It will be useful if you are a webmaster you can restrict admin access to your server to your own ip only very simple and effective method.
It also make easier for admins to block your access from their sites :tongue:

Well, I had this problem with Hathway where in I have to login every 12 hours. Since we use only mobiles in our house, I ended up taking static ip to avoid loggging in everytime
Now just wanted to know problems/benefits of it

Problems are if you do something naughty it is easier to get caught As always, use sufficient protection
