What would you do with a 100mbit/s or 1Gbit/s connection?

Fair point. But yes, at the same time, I wouldn't mind paying a 1000 bucks a year for a static IP if the connection is decent. I've Airtel right now, between Fair Usage Policy and 1500 bucks a year, the whole deal seems like sour curd.

Tata's Static IP is 2000 per annum - if Bharti's is 1500, then I guess 1000 (or even 1200) from us is a bargain :D

It can go upto 2 mbit/s. But it depends on the content.

That would be higher than CD-quality (1411kbit/s)

Storage is very cheap now. A 1TB HD costs < 4000 bucks, which was 5000 just a few months ago.

True 'dat, but how many hard drives per month will you buy really?

Why do you think I'm waiting for you to start services in Bangalore? :D

You and half a million others :P

to me 100mbps or 1gbps is overkilli would be satisfied with speed which can stream 720p or 1080p video without any waiting time may be 48mbps to 50mbps @ max which can stream even blu ray quality at ease everything beyond that is really not usefull for home user.but in business as said it can be used for cyber cafe even though its too costly i bet that will be the busy one in the city if its available.and also can bue used for video conferencing but these kinda of speed cant even be imagined in indiacurrently south Korea offering 1gps to home damm lucky ppl!!!

Yes, it's flac from vinyl.

At current rates, I would want to buy 1+1TB (main+backup) every 6 months.

Oh, yes :)

to me 100mbps or 1gbps is overkill

I don't necessarily disagree. The thing is, I don't believe we should limit the speed specifically only to 30 or 40 or 50 mbit/s if the hardware is capable of 100mbit/s and it doesn't cost us any more to do that.

The question is, obtaining that content. The main source for that would be IPTV, in which case the internet bandwidth isn't really relevent.

I agree, it's good for business. I think the best thing is just to have it available, so that if one does want to download a file, it can come down in seconds, rather than hours.

but these kinda of speed cant even be imagined ion india

Get an imagination. It *is* possible, it just needs implementation. This is where we're coming in ;)

currently south Korea offering 1gps to home damm lucky ppl!!!

We'll have 1Gbit/s to the home. 100mbit/s to the real internet.

Yes, it's flac from vinyl.

Ahh. Mellow.

Sounds about right, so we could estimate to see you using ~200GB a month.

i am waiting for the time when internet speeds would become irrelevant.

That's essentially what we're going for.

The best model for us is similar to the power company or the phone company: it's always available, just pay for what you use. As a business model, unlimited sucks, and frankly, I don't see why ISPs should give consumers "all you can eat" for a fixed monthly price when you pay per minute of phone calls or per kWh of electricity, so long as the price per unit is reasonable.

Didn't read through the other posts, so I might be repeating what someone has said, but damn, I would prefer something like FiOS TV. Full on HD to the home, no distortion.

You definitely should read the other posts :P

would love to create my data backup online than wait for hard disk to crash and me wasting my time recovering whatever data i can ! Plus downloading stuff for my animation will be quite easy with that speed from my institute.:|

looking at the time it took for me to backup my own and wife's flickr accounts. hell yeah.
