What would you do with a 100mbit/s or 1Gbit/s connection?

frankly with flacs if you don't have a good hi-fi high end sound system 5k headphones don't amount to much. you have to invest in a good stereo , amp, speakers set, DAC, etc to enjoy flac or lossless music , and listening to loseless through a computer is just sacrilegious :|

as for data whoring everyone hits a dead end one day , 24 tb on NAS and i hardly hit 150 gigs to 250 gigs a month now and mostly it is streaming Spotify etc , downloading the entire net phase passes fast :|
bro ..nowhere did i say i listened to audio on a pc !! lolz
having said that i still can't make out the difference between flac & 320 with a cowon iaudio 10 and fiio amp. ! and no i m not deaf by any standards. i have heard flacs on a couple of 5.1 systems from klipsch and boston acoustics and still can't make out the difference . at first i tght maybe my ears are screwed or wat considering all the hype abt flacs. aftr a google search i realised almost no one can make out the difference !! even the so called audiophiles couldn't tell it when they were subject to a test by making them listen to same song in 320 & flac without telling them which is which !

This Thread title sounds like "What would you do with 25Lakh Crore Rupee"...everybody's talking about it but nobody has seen such thing in real. :iconrofl:

Arey kaha milegi ye speed pahale ye batao mujhe! ( Where can I get such speed tell me first) :anger3:

ShekhChilli ke sapne!

hehe. 100mbps maybe a stretch but we may get 10~15~20 mbps without/with fairly large FUP limits :D

no brah the difference is there, yes most ppl cannot make it out and without proper hardware and eq and db1 balancing it is really tough to make it out , and good quality 320 CBR or VBR V0 are nearly as good as lossless, but they are not EAC , and here is where FLAC comes in which is just a codec , so a lot depends on who ripped it too , if you are listening to scene rips they are bad i mean real bad rips just tagged as flacs [ scene just started with flacs , so i guess they need time ] get some good ones from what or waffles and then you will see the difference :)

@icon some of us have spend a lot of time outside this country , i have spend a good part of last 8 or 10 years outside india so i am used to 100/100 or 1000/1000 home connections , lol how do you think i manged to fill 24 tb :worship: it is this county which desperately needs a good isp to branch out in the huge market, 100/100 is normal nowadays .

this was my home connection last summer :| oh well in India i can just dream of this now.

Me too - based on the below speed tests, I'm going to assume mostly in Europe - other than Latvia, where else? :)

Not really. Some parts of Europe have ISPs whereby users can avail of such speeds, sure, but the number of countries (relatively speaking) is small, and then too, most of those countries are themselves quite small, as indeed is the continent of Europe. Additionally, even in the countries where such speeds are available, synchronous connections are not the norm - in most countries they are very asynchronous, often upload speed is between 10 and 25% of the download speed - I've even seen a couple of ISPs have it at 1% (100 down, 1 up!)

Ar savu prasibu problema ir ta, ka Lattelecom nav gigabit paketi vel. Un ka pingtime ir briesmigs!! You should have been getting maybe 15ms to Copenhagen.

In May 2011, they'd only recently introduced their (still top of the line) 500mbit/s plan which, while still very good, doesn't support your claim of this being a home connection, and further to that LATTel's home plans rarely reach anything close to synchronous speeds: even if they don't enforce a limit, there is a technological limitation on GPON, and achieving 994mbit/s as an upload would mean you were basically choking an entire PON tree.

That being said, it does go to show that if the infrastructure is built properly and plans are developed to take advantage of it, the Internet experience can be simply awesome, and the point of this thread is to ask how people would use a 100mbit/s+ connection... and based on what I've seen since the thread opened, about 65% of users would download copious amounts of porn (can't argue with router logs) :D

Hey MGC i dont wish to stir any controversy but you can report this post if u feel i am .... What is the latest with the launch of Hayai ??

lolz. wicked speed bro. i don't even want to get started on the pathetic crap sold in the name of broadband in India ! i was used to 50mbits in london + free iptv ! i m just happy tht now over here i atleast have the option of dc++ @ 100mbps. the less said abt the internet speeds the better. btw where do i get the properly encoded flac's?? i m willing to give it another try based on ur reco !! :p..... rt now my only source for anything is fivenet the dc++ hub.

I get this question about 20 times a day, so without turning this in to a Hayai thread, I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone else: the best place to see anything is on Twitter @hayai_in. Here, threads/posts get lost too easily and the process repeats.

In the meantime, as it's too difficult to keep every single person informed individually, and equally difficult to post updates on IBF or whereever, please just check Twitter and if there are any unanswered questions, use the "order status" option on the contact form at hayai.in. Soon, there will be a slightly more dedicated update channel at hayai.net.in.

Except this is not a home plan, as this ISP doesn't have gigabit plans (if you understood Latvian, you'd notice the sentence in my post above alluding to the same :P). At the time of this speedtest, the maximum plan had *just* been upgraded to 500mbit/s. Which still isn't bad, but... you know... even in Latvia it isn't common to have the top tier plan (though considering that 100mbit/s is second-to-bottom... that still says something about there vs here :))
