Prepaid sucks....:closedeyes:we all know that going to Retailer to recharge every now and then is a problem.. and we don't even want to think about running out of balance in times of dire need. But India hates Postpaid even more..why?a common notion that Postpaid bills are inflated by company's(though that's true). The problem of payment, online payment is still not into the masses.and last but most importantly, the notion that it is more costly(well quite true fr now).:blink:So when will telcos start bringing decent and viable PPaid plans for the masses. And when will India adopt PPaid...........like USA, Europe??:solid:plz share whether ur views abt postpaid.

except Airtel every service provider, has given you the option to recharge online, i don't see any problem to that even all banks allow you to recharge directly through net-banking portal.
Airtel has Mchechk or whatever, im yet to figure it out.

But India hates Postpaid even more..why?

Exactly. you answer your own question.
Once in reliance my bill was 1800/- , was out of city and wasn't able to pay bil in due date, in next month they put a "zero" behind the number & sent a bill around 19,500/-, it was such a nightmare, i need to took help from a lawyer to get that rectified. you just cant imagine the time wasted & mental harassment.
Prepaid you dont any chances to such issues, it totally in your control.
Once you know how much you are going to use monthly recharge one time that amount. Normaly i use to top up the max possible i can, keep me free from recharge for months.

if you compare with the kind of plan people have in US/ Uk, just forget it. Those model is just impossible in India.

well what does one do when he does nt have access to net?
But i would say it is more of a simplicity thing...

i am saying this after seeing the plans of developed countries as such. in USA for example most op have a postpaid pack which gives u unlimited calling/texting/surfing(upto a limit), there is no thing like roaming and a guarantee that the bill will not exceed a part. amount, though it never exceeds as everything is unlimited.
Such plans really make u tension free...

i wonder why is it so hard to emulate that in India.

Maybe because ARPU is too less in India OR maybe because our telecos are too greedy (for money, ofcourse). :/

but they can at least bring such a product and showcase it.
may be the rich will adopt it first and then it will percolate down to masses...

your recharge problems are solved with freecharge.in

and call rates are higher in postpaid.

for example, if prepaid call rate is 1p/sec,with annual rental of Rs 28(Airtel) then the same in postpaid will be Rs 150 per month atleast, and service taxes @ 13% extra

Similarly, GPRS for prepaid is RS 98/2GB/month, but for postpaid it is Rs 249 for 125MB/month, or 599 for 600 MB/month
Those using Airtel would also know of the "Daily" plans, which are only applicable for prepaid.

And most of all, you know that in prepaid, the company can cheat you of the current balance only, while in postpaid, they may raise 1000's of rupees in dues

----------

However, postpaid does make sense if:
1)You need international roaming
2)Your call volumes are high enough to go for one of the packs which have a significantly higher amount of free calls than the monthly rent
3)You can make use of CUG facilities

Wow so u want ppaid plans like us & europe??? Seriously??? Have u been there or do u no anyone from there praising their mobile plans??? My brother came back from Canada last July & he is still paying the mobile company $32/month coz he had to sign a 3yr contract to get a decent postpaid plan ... His contract ends in sept so he is gonna keep on paying till then... No I am not complaining coz he should honor the contract he signed but it feel sad that someone would think US/Europe have anywhere close to the decent plans we have here in india... Over there ur min mobile bill is at least $50-60 (Rs2.3-2.7k)... My brother in law came to india & was shocked my the mobile rates we pay here & the convenience with which he was able
to get a prepaid connection at such affordable rates...So I pray to god that we don't get the US/Europe kind of postpaid plans here...

Also as far as I know they do have roaming charges over there... ie if u leave ur state u are charged roaming...

PS I have had a postpaid connection since the Rs32/min era & I am quite happy with the concept but I don't think it's for the "masses"
