frankly speaking. 80% of people would think that you are wearing a fake. unless of course they know you well.
You got that right.
you have to look the part with associated dress/job/vehicle/attire to make people believe that you are really wearing a original.
If you dont look the part,even if you have paid say $1k-2k for various original swiss watches, people will think it is a good 1st quality copy ($50-100)
I used to be a watch freak some time ago while living in HK.Less than 10 expensive originals and a lot of quality knock offs.
I have a big collection housed in expensive watch display case boxes.

when I wear my nice suit and & sit in the first class International flight or sitting in my Gymkhana club Bar,people will think my copies as original.
I have a copy Rolex looking good and working since 2000 where as original Raymond Weil,Omega are now under repair. No interest in even taking to authorised service centre here. (all bought in Sing/HK)
Note: There are specialist Watch parallel importers (smugglers) in Burma Bazzar Mumbai/Chennai. If you are comfortable dealing with them, they will buy it in Sing/Hk/Dubai during their usual run and wear them and walk thro.( they will pay duty/bribes on their usual big items and keep a small profit say rs 5000 profit on a rs 50k-1 lac watch. )
Lot of expensive watches land in india this way. Couriers wear one watch in each hand with full shirt too!!
Edit: But I had to rethink about it.I won't mind spending 1lac-2lacs on a timepiece for sure. If funds is not a concern, obviously.
