As someone who has tested multiple broadband services, I've observed some significant differences between BSNL Fiber and its competitors, Jio and Airtel. Here are a few reasons why BSNL Fiber often lags behind:

1. Infrastructure and Technology: BSNL’s infrastructure is relatively older compared to the modern networks established by Jio and Airtel. The outdated equipment and technology contribute to higher latency and lower speeds.

2. Network Congestion: BSNL often faces network congestion issues due to the large number of users on their relatively less advanced network. This results in slower speeds and higher ping times, especially during peak hours.

3. Maintenance and Upgrades: BSNL’s maintenance schedules and network upgrades are not as frequent or as robust as Jio and Airtel. This lack of regular updates leads to performance issues and slower response times.

4. Routing and Peering: The routing paths BSNL uses are often not as optimized as those of Jio and Airtel. Poor peering arrangements can result in higher ping times and less efficient data transfer.

5. Customer Support and Service Quality: BSNL’s customer support is often criticized for being less responsive compared to Jio and Airtel. Quick resolution of technical issues is crucial for maintaining optimal network performance, which BSNL struggles with.

6. Investment in Future Technologies: Jio and Airtel are continuously investing in future technologies like 5G and advanced fiber optics, ensuring that their networks are not only current but also future-proof. BSNL’s slower adoption of new technologies hampers its ability to compete in terms of speed and reliability.

In summary, while BSNL Fiber might offer competitive pricing, the overall user experience in terms of ping and speed is generally better with Jio and Airtel. If low latency and high speeds are crucial for your internet usage, you might find Jio or Airtel to be more reliable options.

In nutshell bsnl employee don't care about customers as they are not rewarded or punished for good user experience

In Kerala at my place, I have not seen any issues with BSNL. Downtime is more or less non existent. Performance is pretty comparable too.

This is not in a big city, but an area coming under village panchayats, none of the other providers like Airtel or Jio has service here, but BSNL has. Sure in a city there are many many options, and private players make the onboarding really easy.

I feel what BSNL lacks is advertising, better and easy onboarding. The core technology, I don't see an issue with BSNL.

@luffysingh I don't think BSNL Infrastructure lacks more than JIO or Airtel.

Firstly, JIO Fiber lacks too much infrastructure at my area (Himachal Pradesh) as well as in my Friend area (Punjab). Even though they got modern equipment but all of them are manufactured in China which are not that good as compare to other ISPs. (I've seen Himachal Pradesh JIO Backend server at Shimla)

Secondly, Usually you'll see much more maintenance and downtimes on JIO Fiber than Airtel or BSNL Fiber. My area still gets downtime every Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 P.M. I Don't know what they do but it never fix any issues which i still get on it.

Thirdly, JIO Fiber usually give 100ms - 150ms Latency (Download) & 300 - 400ms Latency (Upload) whereas both BSNL & Airtel give less than 50ms Latency on Download/Upload at different platforms. Regarding Packetloss, You'll never get less than 5% packetloss in JIO Fiber at any game (Valorant, CS:GO (CS2) are the main example) whereas both Airtel/BSNL Provide 0% packetloss.
Regarding Speed, If your JIO Plan is 150MBPS, It will provide 150MBPS Download / 140 MBPS Upload whereas Airtel/BSNL Provide 150+ MBPS Speed on 150MBPS Plan. (appx. 160 - 165 MBPS Download/Upload).

Regarding Customer Care support, My area is located in Hilly areas where landslides are the 'Main' cause for fiber cut or some major issues which usually get restored by BSNL within 1 - 3 days (depend on the situation) whereas it took JIO / Airtel more than 1 month just to restore there full connection in my area (including Network towers).

So, It all depends on your locality and area how you got employees and how you deal with your ISP management. In my area, Our BSNL SDO & GMTD usually take all the complaints politely and get it resolved as quickly as possible.

@joker1 yes, they do not, i've been using bsnl fiber for past 1.5 years, going to disconnect this month after lot of deliberation since past 5-6 six months. It feels like i've subscribed to old dsl not fiber, every weekend wire cut, or some packet loss speed throttling issue. Even if fiber signal is good, their OLT are malfunctioning, doing maintenance schedule in working hours. For this month their downtime till now is more than 24hours.
Employee don't even reply to whatsapp text, and complaints are useless, they close them in hours.

BSNL doesn't have much going on in terms of peering arrangements but all the major players are here. They have Google Global Cache and Netflix too I think. And you're missing the best part about being an old ISP. They got tons of publicly accessible ipv4 addresses. You can open any port you want.
