I am from rural area i always have doubt about it when other network have better plan in data and speed than BSNL with lowest price then why you choose BSNL FTTH

Why I chose BSNL FTTH? Because there is no other ISP option in my area :D

I am just lucky itself to have BSNL FTTH and not ADSL which was horrible experience for so many years until FTTH came.

Providers like Jio, airtel, Hathway exists only cities and towns. Most of the india is covered by BSNL's Infra.
So many have higher chance of getting wired broadband from BSNL compared to other providers.
Naturally most of them would have gone to BSNL as it was thier only option.

The advertised plans don't always means they will work as advertised and with a good QoS.

BSNL is very reliable here even with ADSL (about 5-7 downtimes in last 20 years).

BSNL launched their fibers to customers first in my area even though Jio has already laid down the cables but didn't installed dp-box. Airtel was last to enter but they did install a dp-box as they have done cabling ASAP but didn't start the service.

BSNL is also very aggressive as they stand at their existential crisis, areas with multiple homes with connection demand have dpp boxes with orange cables to home.

But they won't deny you even if you are a single customer, I don't have orange cable/dp-box cable, it is a black cable direct from OLT port

(benefits: uncontended speed for that port(remember uplink is shared)....Cons: ONTs don't work with high RX level, he has to install a separate spiltter at home to lower down the power artificially)

As a first mover I have invested around 5k INR,hence I can't jump the providers and I do expect BSNL to come up with better plans and QoS soon ( latency is haywire)

Here is a summary of providers experience at IBF

ACT == Many have complained of their billing problems. Good Speed/Latency
Hathway == Hit or Miss
Excitel == Hit or Miss.Depends on LCO
YOU Broadband == London bridge is falling, falling down,...falling down...Vodafone troubles
Jio == Snobby ISP and clueless staff of them alll. Laid down cables everywhere even in poorest of areas. Plans are not at par with BSNL.
BAD Upload speed, very essential if you do video calls/work from home/etc.. ( their infra is good tho with 96 core cables everywhere at minimum)
Airtel == Best QoS.Facing extreme heat from Jio ,hence resorted to bad practices like over the pole cables like Jio

I only bought it as i needed a backup connection but the experience with it has not been great and the tariff is way too high than the competition available at my place.

Other than this one time where I had a downtime of 18-20 days bsnl ftth have been working excellent for past 6 months for 7 months for me.

@r_j_r :) It's a free market. I can only speak for why I picked BSNL ftth from jio, Kerala vision, asianet, railwire, i think Airtel also available via lco. Adding to what @Realme said,

1. Bsnl ADSL old customer since 2008. Their service has been okay for me. Not much downtime.

2. Comparatively good plans (here in tvm, a tier 2 city) Guaranteed ul / dl speed of 100+ mbps. Lco charged 2k for install and basic (read cheap) ont.

3. No deep packet inspection, device locked, 1 month vs 28 day etc shenanigans ala Jio. (From other threads here)

4. Bsnl has their own fiber backend. So i assume they have less contention vs local cable internet.

Ofcourse there have been irritants like temporary ping spikes, routing, old firmware etc etc.
