I have a curious problem with my Netgear modem at home. I have MTNL ADSL router, and the Netgear wireless modem is connected to it. Here are the facts. 1. My office laptop is unable to authenticate the Netgear signal at home. However, it works fine with any wifi signal anywhere else. So, nothing wrong with the laptop. 2. I have 2 other laptops at home. They work fine with my Netgear modem. So, nothing wrong with the modem. These are the things I have tried:- Getting my office helpdesk to uninstall and reinstall Mobile Office v2 (this is the software used by our IT network to access any wifi signal)- Remove any bookmarks in Mobile Office- Unsecure the wifi signal, change the password, change the name of the signal- feed in the laptop WEP key into the modem settings to allow it to access the device Nothing works. My office helpdesk has given up. They want me to change the modem. Please help!

Summary : Office laptop will not work in WIFI mode at Home !1.From your office laptop post Ipconfig/all2Change to obtain IP address automatically in TCP/IP properties.3. if the OS is Vista disable IPV6.4. Does your Office laptop show the wireless network , you have set up in your home ?5. All wild suggestions! need modem model of MTNL and Netgear wifi router & 1 details.

Thanks for your advice Essbebe!

To your queries:

- OS is Windows 2000
- Very few user rights on my laptop. All hardware is managed remotely from Malaysia.
- Wireless modem is Netgear WGR614 v4
- Office laptop shows the wireless signal but is unable to authenticate it
- MTNL router is D-Link ADSL router model (DSL-502T)

2 interesting things have happened today:

I got my Netgear to the office, where I connected it to an Airtel broadband. And my laptop could access it! So, Netgear is not the problem.

But why should the MTNL router be the problem when other laptops don't have a problem accessing it? Even my office laptop can access the internet if I attach it to the MTNL router using LAN cable!

??? I am stumped ???

@/ashishgoel/ Thanks !
@tanmay_jaswal/ Does your office use VPN network ?

Office laptop : win 2K.
Performance in the /home/office.::
MTNL ISP ==DSL502T== Netgear WIFI router === No wireless connectivity. at Home But Ok with lan port. ( other laptops 1 & 2 work ok )
AirtelISP modem===Netgear WIfi router + Wireless connectivity OK in the office.
1.Which is the modem used with Airtel ISP ?
Info from your Office laptop ( mention make )
2.Start RUN type cmd type Ipconfig/all post data.
compare with other laptop 1 & 2 .
3 OR start Network/ Wireless Network/ Status / support
what are the Ip address gateway dns etc shown ?
4. If possible enter OpenDNS 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222
in TCP/IP properties.
3. Connect RJ45 from dsl 502T to Netgear LANPORT 2 instead of Internet port.
4. Start/All programs/Accessories/Connections/ Wireless network Wizard.
create new connection in office laptop.
