But I never paid for any windows till date, yet my desktop says Windows activated, license linked with my MS account. While I did upgrade 3-4 laptops(came with legal windows) when the schemes was running, I updated my desktop(ahem version) from Win 7 to 10 in 2018 by downloading the ISO from MS site, way later after the scheme was over. I was also saving some money to buy a license but then thought, the license is linked to my mail id, it is already activated so why bother with a new license..

Microsoft is after small or large businesses who are using their software commercially.

Over time they have changed customer behavior and now if they ask us to pay a certain amount to upgrade to their latest OS, we will.

It took time, but they've achieved it. The same is with Adobe products.

They also want to move everything to a subscription based service. Office is already one. Xbox also if you use gamepass. Soon windows will be as well

Since version 2004 feature updates have become blurred. Because the code is already present, it is just what is active in current build. 2004 to 20H2 can be upgraded using a update that is in few KBs.

TIL you can rename multiple files by pressing Tab to scroll between them. : Windows10

Apparently the new Windows 10 update blocks Torrent programs from firing up in the first place. Treats them as mostly malware.
