Yeah, it tells you that max gap can be of 12 hours, so it would need to be something like 10 AM to 10 PM or something. I thought it allowed 18 hours earlier but maybe that was in preview builds (pc and mobile). 18 hours should be OK for them to allow, do they expect more than an hour or two to do an update and reboot???? :D

Tried WSL (bash on ubuntu on windows) yesterday, seems nifty... though MS team says this is beta right now and the OS is ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS - they are going to move to 16.04 LTS "soon".

Will this weekend try to install GUI apps, like KDE's konsole or something and see if that actually works though they say this is only console support :D

I think this BASH feature they should have done YEARS ago (like when Vista or 7 was released) then it would shut up some proud Mac users who always say "but Mac has bash console built in!" and lots of developers prefer Mac - this being ONE of the reasons (of course many go for the hardware/MacOS looks too).

I uninstalled it. Just couldn't get it to create a new user. Most bug reports mention that this happens coz the user on Windows has spaces/special characters in it. But my Windows username is Sushubh as well.

So now that I finally installed the newly released Anniversay Update of Win10 , went ahead and installed WSL and what do you know? You can kinda "run" (at least barely fire up) GUIs too! :D

Looking at following two links:

Managed to install "plasma-desktop" set of packages (for KDE) and running "startkde" command actually loads up KDE desktop though bare zombie kinda state.

I used the vcXsrv software instead of Xming even though latter is way smaller download but not updated for a year, former was very recent.

Avast antivirus has stopped working on my win10 machine. Tried resinstalling and again it failed.

maybe it needs an update before it would work on the w10 anniversary edition? use windows defender for the time being.

It has started working now. Strangely win10 gave me a pop up with a message like spyware unwanted software protection. Avast was non responsive for several minutes then suddenly i get the avast pop up saying you are protected. I am still worried win10 will break avast again and disable the shields.
